Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about UPI interchange MDR fees, split payment compliance, POS modes, and privacy.
1. What is the UPI MDR charge on payments above ₹2,000?
As per NPCI regulations, an interchange Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) of up to 1.1% is levied when customers make merchant payments exceeding ₹2,000 using Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs like digital wallets) or credit cards linked to UPI.
2. Who pays the interchange MDR charge?
The merchant or shopkeeper pays the MDR fee. It gets automatically deducted from your daily bank settlement by your payment gateway or QR provider.
3. How does QuickSplit eliminate MDR fees?
QuickSplit slices any high bill (e.g. ₹6,000) into sequential smaller QR codes (e.g. ₹2,000 + ₹2,000 + ₹2,000). Since every single transaction value is ₹2,000 or lower, zero MDR charges apply and 100% of the funds are deposited directly to your bank account.
4. Is splitting transactions legal and compliant?
Yes. Each QR code is an independent, legitimate UPI payment transaction encoded with standard UPI deep-link specifications. Customers approve each transaction with their own UPI PIN on their mobile devices.
5. Does QuickSplit store my merchant UPI ID or transaction details?
No. QuickSplit operates 100% client-side inside your browser. No transaction amounts, customer references, or merchant UPI details are ever transmitted to or stored on external servers.
6. Which UPI apps support scanning QuickSplit QR codes?
QuickSplit generates standard universal UPI QR codes compatible with all major Indian UPI applications, including Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Cred, Amazon Pay, Navi, and official banking apps (HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, etc.).
7. What is the difference between "Greedy" and "Equal Split" modes?
Standard (Greedy) Mode: Creates maximum ₹2,000 chunks to minimize the number of QR scans needed (e.g., ₹5,000 becomes ₹2,000 + ₹2,000 + ₹1,000).
Equal Split Mode: Divides the total amount into equal balanced amounts (e.g., ₹5,000 becomes ₹1,667 + ₹1,667 + ₹1,666).
Equal Split Mode: Divides the total amount into equal balanced amounts (e.g., ₹5,000 becomes ₹1,667 + ₹1,667 + ₹1,666).
8. Can I use QuickSplit on a customer-facing screen?
Yes! QuickSplit includes a built-in Customer Display POS Mode. With one click, it opens a high-contrast fullscreen view with big buttons and large QR displays, ideal for secondary tablets or screens placed on checkout counters.
9. Can I print thermal slips for customers?
Yes. Clicking "Print Slip" formats the split QR codes into a compact thermal receipt layout ready to print via any standard 58mm or 80mm ESC/POS USB or Bluetooth thermal receipt printer.
10. Can I share split payment links on WhatsApp?
Yes. The "Share WhatsApp" button creates a pre-formatted message with direct UPI payment links that customers can tap to pay directly on their phones.
11. Does QuickSplit work offline?
Yes. QuickSplit is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA). All QR generation and calculation logic runs locally in JavaScript, meaning you can continue generating split QR codes even if your internet connection is intermittent.
12. Is QuickSplit completely free to use?
Yes. QuickSplit is 100% free, open-source software with no subscriptions, ads, or commissions.
